How we handle your personal data

When you share a personal story about cancer with the Swedish Cancer Society, we process your personal data in order to manage your consent and to use the material in our communications, with the aim of spreading knowledge, creating engagement and increasing understanding of cancer.

The legal basis for processing your personal data is consent. This is particularly relevant when the story contains sensitive personal data, such as information about health.

When you provide information about your next of kin, it is important that you check with them that the Swedish Cancer Society may process their personal data.

Which personal data is being processed and for how long?

The following personal data about you may be processed by the Swedish Cancer Society in connection with you contributing your personal story

name
contact details (for example, email address and telephone number)
image, video and audio material in which you and/or your child can be clearly identified
health data.

We store your personal data for five years after consent has been obtained.

The material may be used in the Swedish Cancer Society’s own communication channels, such as our website and social media, as well as in our partners’ channels in connection with the Swedish Cancer Society’s communications.

How to request deletion or changes to your personal data

You can request the deletion, correction or restriction of your personal data at any time by contacting us at samtycke@cancerfonden.se. The Swedish Cancer Society’s data protection officer can be reached at personuppgifter@cancerfonden.se.

If you have complaints about how your data is processed, you have the right to contact the supervisory authority, the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection.

Where is your personal data processed?

As a general rule, the Swedish Cancer Society always processes your personal data within the EU/EEA. If we use a supplier or sub-supplier that processes personal data outside the EU/EEA, we always enter into specific agreements with them and take organisational and technical security measures to ensure that the personal data are handled securely and with an adequate level of protection comparable to, and on the same level as, the protection within the EU/EEA.
